"Classics meet Jazz" is an encounter between musicians from two seemingly different worlds, but at the same time are strongly connected to each other in many ways.
This project was born in 2019 from the enthusiasm and passion for Jazz of the classical pianist Beatriz Galán during her Master's studies. In response to her research question, "How can I transfer the essence of Jazz to the classical piano repertoire with Jazz idioms? she decides to start a journey with Jazz musicians and bring new light to this repertoire, reaching the authenticity of each style.
Her vision and mission are to spread the classical piano repertoire with Jazz influences, to incorporate the freshness of the New Orleans-born style to the world of classical music, as well as to bring classical repertoire closer to Jazz music lovers.
Classics meet Jazz is characterized by its variety of styles: Ella Fitzgerald’s ballad-style, Latin, groove, tango, and even a tribute to Thelonious Monk’s "Round Midnight" using a much more contemporary language. All this, through works for solo piano, vibraphone and piano, and arrangements made by the pianist herself for a typical formation of Cuban instruments and piano jazz trio with bass and drums.
